Resume photos, done right
The most popular part of our seminar. Japanese resume photos have rules — and fashion roles bend them a little.
Standard resume photo
- Mouth closed, corners turned up
- A refined smile, not a grin
- No smile / stiff expression
- Residence-card-style ID photo
Applying to fashion brands
- Add a more natural, smiling photo beyond the formal one
- Include a full-body shot
- Something you’d post on Instagram works
- What they want to see is that you love dressing up
Interview tips
How you speak
- Bright, clear, energetic — speak a little louder than usual
- Sit up straight and keep still
- Say “hai” (yes) just once. Repeating it (“hai hai hai”) reads as dismissive in Japanese, even though repetition feels natural in Chinese.
What to prepare

- Research the brand thoroughly
- Check the website and Instagram — visit a store if you can
